Owensboro and Daviess County Teacher Academy

The Owensboro–Daviess County Teacher Academy is a partnership among area high schools and colleges whose goals include growing and developing a pipeline of qualified teachers for local public schools and to increase the overall diversity of local teaching staffs. High school guidance counselors work with college and career readiness coaches to identify 学生 who might be interested in teaching as a career, provide an orientation to such 学生 and their parents, and follow up on ideas to provide financial support for 学生 who need it. The program offers a core of college-level courses such as Writing I and II, 大学代数, and two introductory education courses: Introduction to Education and Technology in the Classroom. These courses may be taught at either the high school or a partner college campus (Brescia University, 肯塔基卫斯理学院, and Owensboro Community and Technical College), but the goal is to have 学生 actually on a college or university campus in order to build confidence that they can succeed as a student in higher education.

Now beginning its third year of operation, Brescia University schedules Writing and Education courses on alternating days early in the school day so that Teacher Academy 学生 may attend these courses before traveling to their home school sites. Students from Owensboro Catholic High School, local Owensboro and Daviess County high schools, and Hancock County High School have attended these courses.
